Item No. Item Details Action

1. Introduction
GG opened the meeting at 19.45 (we had trouble accessing the site as nobody had informed security about the meeting!!).

2. Attendance and apologies as above.

3. Minutes of previous meeting.
Minutes from the previous meeting were taken as read and entered into the records.

4. Events and Fundraising
Although Jan-marie Burnham was unable to attend the meeting she had already requested, via E-mail, that we discuss the possibility of creating a sub committee, that would be dedicated to fund-raising and event planning throughout the calendar year. EP elaborated on this idea and asked if the committee would agree to the idea. All those present were in agreement that this would be extremely beneficial and voted in favour of the proposal.
Action: EP

5. Event Scheduling
Having agreed to the formation of the sub committee for events it was decided that now is a good time to start planning for some future events. Two main ideas were put forward. Firstly, to try and arrange a Ramadan Tent and Iftaar event in September, following the success of the last one in 2006. Secondly, to have a festive Fayre, possibly in or around November. Obviously as we are near the end of the school year, the planning for this will need to be done during the holidays. We will attempt to keep all parents informed of any activities planned, either via SMS, E-mail or the website.

6. Re-launch of the Friends of the British School
It was agreed by everyone on the committee that the Friends should be re-launched with a more modern and friendly image. Ideas put forward included a new Friends web site, with a link from the school website, reviewing the constitution, and advising all parents what the actual role of the Friends is going to be in the future. All references to PTA will be removed as this title gives a misleading impression of the Friends. Please remember to check on the website during the holidays for any information or updates.
Action: DP

7. Allocation of Funds
CP asked if it would be possible for us to announce where any funds raised from a particular event would be spent. GG replied that this is possible, especially for events such as the festive fayre. However, for some of the smaller fund raisers the money is pooled for use when requests for funds are received. Attached at  the end of these minutes are some of the items that the Friends have financed in the past.

8. Cake Raffle
The cake raffle has been very successful over the past term raising BD183.500. This has always been popular, especially among the younger pupils. Thanks go out to Rita Arrowsmith and all those of you who have been baking the cakes, some of which have been really spectacular!

9. Stationary and Admin
The point was raised as to who would be doing any photocopying etc. that was required for the dispersal of information. In the past we have usually been lucky enough for the school to help us with this. GG will check on this and report back to us. Action: GG

10. New Ideas
We would be pleased to hear from any one who has ideas for fund-raising. These could be events that you would like to see being arranged, items to be sold in order to raise money, sponsored events or any other activities. If you have any thing along these lines please contact Dave Powell, Tel 36314600 or E-mail dave@etpowell.com

11. Class LInks
Chantelle Laubscher advised us via E-mail that she had received an updated list of parents and had been contacting some of them. However, the general response has been that “it is near the end of term, but please contact us next term” as usual we desperately need some class links for the senior school! Action: CL

12. "The Entertainer"
Chantelle also confirmed that a total of 31 copies of the Entertainer had been sold and a cheque for the total amount raised would be forwarded to the treasurer. Action: CL
